About this template

A repair visit on a shingle roof: each damaged area with what is wrong, its size, the bundles to match and the decking; each flashing with its step pieces from the shingle exposure, its linear pieces, and the chimney width the cricket rules are quoted against. No insurance verdict, no price.

Guide and sources

One row per damaged area: what you see (never an insurance or hail verdict), its length and width along the slope, the shingle in place so the repair matches, and the decking to replace. The bundles come from the shingle maker's bundles per square (GAF: most shingles 3), added up per shingle and rounded up once.

For each flashing, its kind and where it is. Step flashing takes one piece over each shingle course (AMCQ): type the length along the slope, the stepped sides and the shingle exposure (Owens Corning Duration: 5 5/8 in), and the sheet counts the pieces. Counter flashing, valley metal and drip edge are counted at your stock length. The help quotes each rule side by side: IRC R905.2.8 in the US, NBC 9.26.4 and the AMCQ's Division 4 in Canada and Quebec.

For a chimney, type the width of its upper side: a cricket or saddle is asked above 30 in by the IRC (unless the chimney meets the ridge), above 750 mm by the NBC, above 24 in by the AMCQ. The help quotes the three; the call is yours. The client's report shows the areas, the problems, the sizes and the flashings; waste, bundles, exposures and stock lengths stay in your team's report.

Skylights have a section of their own. One row per skylight: the job (replace, reflash or a new opening), the type and the roofing around it, the size code and its rough opening typed from the maker's chart (VELUX M04: 30 1/16 x 37 7/8 in), the opening there now and the change in each direction, the rafter spacing the size fits, the pitch (VELUX deck-mounted: 14 to 85 degrees; IRC R308.6.8: a 4 in curb below 3:12 unless the maker says otherwise) and the distance to the nearest ridge, valley, wall or skylight against the maker's minimum (VELUX with shingles: 18 in above and below, 12 in at the sides). One row per light shaft: its size at the ceiling and its depth at the center give the wall area to frame, insulate and finish. Every requirement is typed; the margins only show the distance.
