Free epoxy floor calculator: gallons, kits and flakes

Get the gallons and kits of one epoxy product, the flakes and the cove base for a floor in seconds, free and without an account. One row per area: its length, width and what it leaves out (a pad, a pit). Then one product at a time: its coats, the dry film per coat and the volume solids from its data sheet, your loss and the kit size. The calculation gives the coverage, the gallons and the kits, and if you broadcast flakes or run a cove base, the boxes and the cove kits. In imperial or metric.

A quick estimate for one product: the primer, the body coat and the topcoat are each run on their own. The template handles the whole job: every area and every coat with its product, and totals by section.

Epoxy floors: what the data sheets say (reference)

Figures read in makers' data sheets, one product each. Your product's own sheet has the last word.

What the data sheet says
100% solids epoxy (MF Paints, Laval)5 to 8 mils per coat, 200 to 300 sq ft per US gallon at 5 to 8 mils; 3 and 15 gallon kits; solids given by weight, not by volume
Full flake broadcast (Miracote MiraFlor Flake, install guide)1/4 in chips at 0.12 lb per sq ft (12 lb per 100 sq ft), 1/8 in chips at 0.15 lb (15 lb); one box of 55 lb; receiving coat at 160 sq ft per mixed gallon; theoretical rates, for estimating
Epoxy cove base (Rust-Oleum OverKrete 45/65 CB)A 5 gallon kit makes 35 to 40 linear feet at 4 in high, 3/16 in thick, with a 1 in radius
Epoxy cove base (General Polymers, Sherwin-Williams)The binder resin makes 45 to 50 linear feet at 4 x 1/8 in (30 to 35 ft at 6 in), 1 in radius; the concrete prepared to a CSP 4 to 6 profile

How it is calculated

Floor area = length x width - deduction, added up over every row (never below 0). Cove area = cove length x cove height. Area to coat = floor + cove. Coverage per gallon = 1,604 x volume solids / 100 / dry film per coat in mils: a US gallon is 231 cu in, and spread 1 mil (0.001 in) thick it covers 1,604 sq ft; in metric, 1 L at 1 µm covers 1,000 m², so m²/L = 10 x volume solids / dry film in µm. Liquid = area to coat x coats / coverage x (1 + loss). Kits = liquid / kit size, rounded up to the kit. Flakes = floor area x broadcast rate, boxes rounded up to the box. Cove kits = cove length / the kit's printed yield, rounded up. The coverage is the theoretical one: porous or rough concrete takes more, which is what the loss is for. Every figure comes from your product's data sheet: nothing is filled in.
