Fence calculator: posts, sections, pickets and concrete

One row per fence run: its length. Enter your post spacing, rails, pickets, hole size and the concrete printed on the bag: the calculation counts the rest. One fence style at a time.

A quick estimate. Two runs that meet share a corner post: take it off when ordering. Gate posts are counted separately. The template handles the whole property: runs by style, gates, the old fence and totals.

Concrete per bag and hole size (reference)

The yield printed on a bag of fast-setting concrete mix, cited as a guide: enter the one on your bag. The same maker digs a hole about 3 times the post width, 1/3 of the post length deep plus 6 in of gravel, and stops the concrete 3 to 4 in below grade.

How it is calculated

For each run: sections = length / spacing, rounded up, and posts = sections + 1 (each run has its two ends). Rails = sections x rails per section. Pickets = length / (picket width + gap), rounded up. Concrete per hole = (pi x diameter² / 4 - post width²) x concrete depth: a square post in a round hole. Bags = posts x concrete per hole / concrete per bag, rounded up on the total. No spacing, hole size or bag yield comes filled in: they are yours and the bag's.
