About this template
Measure each area to spray with polyurethane foam: the assembly, closed or open cell, the area and thickness, the board feet, the passes from the product's maximum per pass, the sets from the supplier's yield, the R-value reached and the thermal barrier the foam will need.
Guide and sources
One row per area to spray: the assembly, closed or open cell, the length and height (or width), then the thickness. The figures in the hints come from several makers' data sheets and the codes; your product's data sheet always comes first.
Quantities: board feet are the area times the thickness (1 sq ft at 1 in). The sets come from the yield your supplier gives for its set and your conditions; makers print figures such as 5,000 bd ft per set for a closed-cell foam and about 20,000 for an open-cell foam. The passes follow the product's maximum per pass: 2 in for most closed-cell foams, each pass cooled before the next.
R-value: the thickness times the R per inch from the data sheet, in imperial R; the NBC counts sprayed medium-density polyurethane at 0.036 RSI per mm. Foam facing a room needs a thermal barrier (an interior finish, sheet metal, or gypsum in the US), with exceptions for concealed spaces and an ignition barrier in some attics and crawl spaces: the sheet records which, it never judges an assembly.
In Canada, spray foam (the NBC's French says « pulvérisée ») is installed to CAN/ULC-S705.2 by certified installers, with a daily work record. Plan the occupants' return from the product's data sheet, often 24 hours with ventilation. The client's report shows the areas, thicknesses, board feet and R-values; the passes, yields and sets stay in your team's report.
