Free blind measurement calculator: the size to order, to the 1/8 in

Get the width and height to order for your blinds, shades and shutters, inside or outside mount, in seconds, free and without an account. One row per window, or per group of identical windows: the mount, three widths and three heights to the nearest 1/8 in, the depth available and the quantity. Pick the product to fill the figures its maker prints, or type yours: each row gives the width and height for the order, and the totals give the blinds, the covered area and the inside mounts not deep enough. In imperial or metric.

The size for the order from the mount and the figures entered: your maker's guide and order form have the last word. The template handles the whole job: every window with its mount, obstructions, diagonals, control and fabric, the curtains, and totals by product.

Blinds and shades: what the makers say (reference)

The methods and figures read in the makers' measuring guides. Your product's have the last word.

What the source says
BaliSteel tape, to the nearest 1/8 in. Inside mount: three widths, the narrowest kept, no deduction (the maker takes 3/8 in off cellular shades); three heights, the longest kept, the shortest for vertical blinds and sliding panels. Outside mount: 1 1/2 in on each side (cellular shades, wood blinds), 3 in (roller shades, vertical blinds, panels); at least 2 in of flat surface above, 3 in for vertical blinds and panels. Minimum depth inside: 5/8 to 1 3/8 in by cellular shade, 3/4 in for wood, 2 3/8 in for vertical blinds
LevolorThree widths, the shortest kept, no deduction; the depth at the top of the frame, the shortest reading, 1/2 to 3 in by product, obstacles included. 1 in metal blinds: 7/8 in with hidden brackets, 1 in with box brackets. Outside mount: at least 3/4 in more on each side of the frame, 3 to 6 in in all for metal blinds
NormanTo the nearest 1/8 in. Blinds: the shortest width, the longest height (horizontal) or the shortest (vertical); roller shades: the width at the top, the tallest height; shutters: the narrowest and shortest inside. Outside mount: 4 in added to the width and length of blinds, 3 in for roller shades
MaxxmarThe smallest of three widths, rounded down to the 1/8 in; the largest of three heights for blinds and shades, the smallest for shutters; the maker makes the deductions
AltexIn inches: the width at the top of the frame, the height on both sides, the shortest kept, the depth in three places, the shortest kept; outside mount without a projecting sill: from 2 in below the sill to 3 in above the opening
LutronFully recessed inside mount: 2 1/2 in (64 mm) for honeycomb shades, 3 1/8 in (80 mm) for roller shades without a fascia, 3 3/8 in (86 mm) with one; outside mount: 3 1/8 in (honeycomb) and 4.5 in (roller) of room above the trim
Hunter DouglasThe width at the top, centre and bottom, the height on both sides and in the centre, then the diagonals: a window out of square may call for an outside mount. Shutters (Hunter Douglas Hospitality): diagonals more than 3/8 in apart call for an outside mount

How it is calculated

Inside mount: width for the order = the narrowest width measured; height = the longest height, or the shortest when the maker asks for it (vertical blinds, sliding panels, shutters). No deduction: the maker takes it for an inside mount. Outside mount (on the trim, the wall or the ceiling): width = the widest width + 2 x the overlap per side; height = the longest height + the room above + the room below. A reading left empty is not counted; an overlap or a room left empty counts 0. Covered area = width x height / 144 x quantity, in sq ft. Not deep enough: an inside mount whose depth available is under the product's minimum depth, x the quantity. The same formulas as the window coverings measure template; the sizes show to the nearest 1/8 in.
